DC Carnivale..... 1 haitian + 1 U.V.I. + 1 Yankee= A blast

Hey all-
As promised here is day 2 of my weekend with the girls! We went to the DC Carnival and Parade and we thought we were late but in my opinion we arrived JUST IN TIME. As we were walking up, I heard the familiar sound of one of my fave Haitian songs... K'em Pas Sote by Boukman Eksperyans. Even with my knee not so hot I started running and dancing behind the float... I LOVE MY CULTURE!!!!

Girls and I had an impromptu photo shoot before getting to Georgia Ave......
I didn't wear anything extra special as I was going for comfort and anything that I wouldn't be upset if it was ruined with glitter/tar/paint/ or mud.

Everyone Loves a Haitian Girl......

Hey all-
So I got inspired and felt like I needed to take some pics even though I technically am "immobile" due to this knee injury. I spent Saturday running errands with my sister fro another mister and even though I complained a ton bc of the pain of using crutches over the pain of the actual knee, I was ecstatic to be out of the house and doing something other than stuffing my face while watching reality TV. (yes I have fallen into that mindless trap). I cannot STAND being dependent and not being able to just dash around like I am used to. I am learning alot during this time... I knew I was hardheaded and stubborn but not to the degree that I really am Oh goodness... I MISS HEELS!!!!

p.s. Rockin a T shirt I made on Customizedgirl about 1.5 years ago.... yes my pride is untouchable for my heritage!

Haitian Flag Day

For more than 200 years, the Haitian flag has served as a symbol of freedom and a source of pride for many Haitians. Each and every year, Haitian Flag Day, is celebrated on May 18th to commemorate Haiti's struggle against slavery and its triumphant victory over the three greatest military powers in the world (in the 19th century -Spain, England, and France).

I am very proud of my culture, history and just being Haitian period. We are some of the most resilient people in the world and I wish everyone a HAPPY FLAG DAY!!!!

In honor of my country, I wore red and blue today to honor what the rebellion did for us. You can see the skirt in another post here: SKIRT

sidenote: It was a very impromptu shoot (after work and had been sitting ALL day in it) and I probably should have chosen a white wall to showcase the skirt... you live and you learn :)
